3/13/2009 : "NEW" Comparisons of Tillage Practices For Summer Grain Sorghum in Oklahoma Panhandle
Just obtained (March 10th, 2009) from OPREC Okla. State Univ.
Agronomist, Rick Kochenower reports from his work at Blackwell, OK how alternating strip-till passes at different times of the year prior to planting affects the crop. This data does indicate in dry, dry conditions that the strip-tillage event after the prior crop and some over winter moisture yields may reach what direct seeding offers. When strip-till is accomplished with a planter attached or immediately behind, the yields are right up there and precision fertilizer placement is a great asset. Kochenower says this all merits further investigations and they will continue in 2009.
We will continue to watch what Rick Kochenower studies this year. Savings and efficiency of dryland cropping in Western Oklahoma, SW Kansas, and Texas is very important.
